Sawyer Brice Racing
Go fast... Turn Left
Hello everyone, this is my bio and the story of how I got started in racing.
My story starts March 2005 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. where I came into this world and met my Mom and Dad for the first time and my 5 other brothers and sisters. I am the youngest of the 6 of us. I was the baby until my oldest sister had my niece a few years after that. Mom and Dad REFUSED to give me a little sister or brother. So I guess a niece that is a year and a half younger than me will work just fine. Her name is Christal and she and I are like peas in a pod. And we sure do have fun when we are together. Sometimes its so funny when we are out somewhere with my oldest sister and her husband and people think I am my sisters little girl. They sometimes ask my mom and dad "so, how old is your grand daughters?" Dad just laughs and then when Mom tells them "Well, she is ours (pointing at my sister) and she, is ours (pointing at me) and SHE, is our GRAND DAUGHTER! (pointing at Christal)" The people seem to get a look on their face as if to say, "WHAT? omg you people have lost your mind." Mom and Dad say I was put here on earth to keep them young. And as they say, they never in a million years thought they would have Sawyer (thats me) at 40+ years of age. We won't talk about how many +'s there are in the 40 because Mom said so, but there are a few. Dad could care less but Mom don't like pluses.
OK, where was I? After I was born the first year was just spent being a baby. Then when I was little (1 1/2) My Mom and Dad noticed that when I was restless and cranky they could turn on a Nascar or Indy Car race and I would sit there for the next three hours and NOT MOVE or take my eyes off of the TV! There was something about cars racing that always mesmerized me. Mom swears some of my first words were "GO TONY STEWART" but it may have been just "MOMA DADA!" I don't really remember. But one thing was for sure, I loved watching racing. And it wasn't long after that when I went to a real race track to see a modified race at the big car track that is about 500 yards from my house. I would always hear them crank up those big motors on friday nights and make my bedroom windows shake. So Mom & Dad took me to show me what all that noise was. That was so cool!
Then when I was just 2 years old my Mom and Dad bought me a little red mustang car, and that started my love for driving. I was always wanting my Dad to get on one of his motorcycles or the 4-wheelers and race me in my little mustang. Of course I always beat him because I was always the one to say "GO!" Soon after that Dad and I took a trip up to Jackson, Ms where they were racing go-karts to watch a go-kart race. I bet when me and him left that morning and Mom told us to be safe and have a fun day she didn't mean "Come home with a racing kart" But thats what happened. I guess Dad thought it was time for me to find out about gas motors. He had did it with one of my big brothers when he was 5 so why not me? So when I was 3 1/2 my Dad introduced me to GAS motors. Mom didn't think it was to good of a ideal. But I guess that was just the mom in her. Besides, he had already let me drive it and I WAS HOOKED! And I guess she just couldn't make herself tell me "NO". So right before I turned 4 years old I was behind the wheel of my very own racing kart. I think it had something to do with Dad passing me off for 6 but I could be wrong. I remember Mom asking Dad one time, "Did you tell them she has just turned 4 years old?" and then Dad saying, "I didn't lie to them about her age... They never asked"
One of the men at the track I think knew I was young but he saw that I was not just a average 4 year old. His name was Mr. Bobby Lane and Mr. Bobby knew alot about kart racing and started coaching me. I found out that the reason Mr. Bobby knew so much was because he had a son named Kyle that he use to take all over the country racing karts when he was young. And Kyle had won 2 national championships in the WKA (world karting association) That first year Mr. Bobby spent alot of his time teaching me about racing karts. Sometimes I really tested his patience because there was one turn on the road course that was like a 180 degree turn. And I always would hit that turn wide open and slide sideways around it with my tires just a squealing. And he would laugh and tell Dad, "That girl doesnt even know she has a break on her kart"
Then one day on the way home from a asphalt race Dad said he knew of a place where they raced karts on a dirt track that was in Gulfport, Ms. And asked me did I want to go watch them. Of course it didn't take long for me to say, "YES!" So Dad and I headed for Gulfport, Ms. That was a great night, racing, hotdogs, snowcones.... and the phone number to a man in Birmingham, Alabama. that had a dirt kart for sale that was ready to race. Me and Dad only had two problems. (ONE) We were going to have to figure out how to ask Mom for about $1500.00 and (TWO) We didn't ask the man that owned and ran the track in Gulfport if he would let a 4 year old girl race with those boys. So Dad and I came up with a plan... When we got home I would go inside and tell Mom what a GREAT time we had at the races that day. And how she was the BEST MOTHER in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD and how I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like to race dirt karts too. And then Dad would go into his shop office and call the man in Gulfport and ask if I could race at that track. I remember Mom saying "WHERE IS YOUR FATHER?" right before she said, "I guess so" And then I ran out to the shop SCREAMING "DAD, SHE SAID YES" that was right about the time Dad called Mr. Ronald Parker (the track owner) and when I walked into the shop dad was on the phone. Mr. Parker must have asked dad how old I was because dad said, "Um shes 4.... 4 AND A HALF" then there was a few seconds of dead air. And Mr. Parkers says, "Yeah, I guess so. I'll give her a shot at it." HOLLY SMOKES! Now I was going to be able to race every weekend. One weekend in my asphalt kart and the other weekend in my dirt track kart. I was jumping for joy!
Turns out Mr. Parker had been around racing all his life and all of his brothers and him raced big cars and he remembered what it was like to be young wanting to race. And their Dad had got them into racing back when they were young too. But I guess they didnt really have a chance though because their dad was Mr. JD Parker. Talk about OLD SCHOOL! Mr. JD Parker is a race car driver that has had one of his sprint cars in the sprint car hall of fame.
That was the day I officially became a dirt track racer. But my first race was tuff! I started the race with a clean nice kart and finished with a kart that was totally messed up with the body of the kart draging the ground. And dirt all over me from head to toe. But I had a SMILE from ear to ear! I was HOOKED on dirt track racing from that day on.
So there you have it. Thats how I found myself where I am today in the sport of racing. I am now 6 years old, and I have had such a great time in this sport. And have met so many GREAT people along the way. Race car drivers and their families are some of the best people in the world. And this sport is one of the most competitive sports there is. And I hope I have many years in it.
Me the day I turned 4 and my first kart. A 50cc asphalt sprint kart. The day we came home with my first kart & before its makeover.

After the makeover this was what it looked like.
